Rhiannon Southwell Textile Designer Blossom & Brush window film

Blossom & Brush was founded by professional textile designer Rhiannon Southwell 2015.

After a fruitless search for net curtains, frosted glass or blinds for the bay windows of her Bristol home, Rhiannon couldn’t find anything she liked. “I wanted some privacy, but also plenty of light, so I painted a folk-inspired design onto the inside of my windows,” she says.

Following an overwhelming response to her own windows and countless enquiries from passers-by, Blossom & Brush was born. At first Rhiannon took commissions to hand paint each and every window. But there was a long waiting list, which kept growing.

Having worked in print design for nearly 20 years, she felt the obvious thing to do was to have her patterns printed onto a suitable material so they could be shipped all over the world. Blossom & Brush window film is now available globally, with each piece hand-designed by Rhiannon.

“Our window film is made to measure from high-grade, self-adhesive polyester. It’s an ideal way to put my art on any window, anywhere in the world. Because I re-size and re-work every order to fit each pane of glass, every purchase is tailor made. We don’t cut the film off a roll. It doesn’t peel or scratch and is very easy to apply. Once on, it lasts for about 10 years.”

The range of products has grown over the years, with many more designs becoming available. Blossom & Brush now also offers door numbers and Rhiannon is always interested in hearing about commissions.

“At heart, I love designing,” she says. “If a customer wants something special, I’m more than happy to help out.” This has led to personalised windows featuring many different designs – for homes and businesses. This includes cafes across the UK, bespoke window art for high-end retailers and even shops in Australia.

“I love nothing more than working on new patterns. I still spend half my time designing prints for high street retailers. If you’ve bought something from one of the well-known women’s wear brands in the past, you may have already worn one of my pieces.”

Originally from Machynlleth in mid-Wales, Rhiannon moved to Bristol in 2013 with her husband and two sons, after 10 years living and designing in London. Prior to this, she lived and worked in Stockholm for a global fashion brand.
